Chaos Contained

National Touring Exhibition 2013 onwards - National Centre for Craft and Design

Born from curator Laura Mabbutt's first encounter with Alexis' work in 2009, Chaos Contained explores the inherent qualities she first saw then: those of a magical combination of technical skill, knowledge of his material, conceptual integrity and an eye for visual impact.

The show takes the form of an immersive installation exploring ideas from life sciences, evolution, anthropology and sacred art. The exhibition also incorporates the innovative integration of digital media, something new to Rago’s practice and a key contributor to this exhibition’s impact.

...the making and curating of a deeply-layered exhibition, commenting on the interlinking of what he calls 'architectural, religious and conceptual space'. It is a kind of communion with the deep past.

Chaos Contained calls to mind aeons of time; imagined places of worship and the vey first steps of humanity; and a sophisticated, human, watchfulness.

Professor Simon Olding

The show has so far been shown in three very different venues gathering unanimous acclaim and attracting over 4,500 visitors during its inaugural showing at the National Centre for Craft and Design alone.
