The multichambered structure draws from the mapping of cave structures as well as anatomical studies. Inspired by the classical idea of the oracle within an underground location, the photographs show a point in the development of a multimedia work which is momentarily paused due to the coronavirus situation.
Photography has enabled me to make a physical visualisation of the final form. The aesthetics draw both from Flemish and Dutch still lifes as well as more modern representations of science fiction. In this merging of the old with the new, I find a meaning that both connects and proposes contemporary ideas without the necessity of referencing human activity. It is a way of seeing our presence as transitory: vulnerable to the contingencies of nature.
Logos (Greek: word, reason, speech, meaning, opinion) refers to the speech embedded in the chambers in the final installation.
